Stonehenge

Stonehenge you are DAMN cold. Okay, now that I got that out of the way...

Basically the tour of Stonehenge consisted of us driving up on a bus-which apparently soon you will no longer be able do and will have to park and walk about two miles in ice-winds-you then get a little phone for a "self-guided" tour, and then you in a circle walk around the Stonehenge structure. Tour=DONE.  It was cool to go into the tour knowing that the stones are aligned perfectly so that on the longest day of the year, the Summer Solstice, the sun aligns perfectly between to boulders.
Next we can attack the elephant in the room, how did it get there and who built it?! I think we all know it was aliens, let's be real.  Honestly, though....explain to me how all of these extremely heavy stones were brought all the way from Wales as aligned to a perfect science in ancient times (no technology to assist), when people of TODAY can't even recreate the process without the rocks sinking the boats. HUH? No answer? That's what  I THOUGHT, thanks aliens.

One of the "elements of identity" Stonehenge represents to me is religion.  I think it is very
plausible and most likely that Stonehenge was constructed as a religious monument, whether for worship of gods or as a healing center.  It seems to have been a meeting place of peoples to celebrate or revere SOMETHING.  Even as people go to visit nowadays, there is a sense of peacefulness and reverence that comes over you.  Not to mention the gorgeous sites surrounding the monument, with endless rolling hills of green and all the yellow flowers.  The yellow flowers, by the way, are canola oil plants, or RAPESEED as London likes to refer to it.  They cover the countrysides because farmers are paid a certain amount of money if they grow them on their land.  The second "element of identity" I noticed would be power just because of what Stonehenge has come to be to the world.  It is an ancient natural wonder and its origins remain a mystery that everyone wishes would be solved.  Stonehenge's power lies in the fact that nearly everyone all over the world has heard about it-global influence- but no one knows exactly what it's purposes are, and therefore it holds a very mysterious power.  I am glad that I was able to see it in person, and can check another item off my bucket list. Hoorah!

XOXO
